Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, glaze, or chocolate coating
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven (If Baking)
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). If frying, you can skip this step. - Prepare the Batter
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fill the Donut Pan (If Baking)
- Lightly grease a mini donut pan.
- Spoon the batter into a piping bag or a plastic bag with a small corner cut off.
- Pipe the batter into the donut cavities, filling each about 2/3 full.
- Bake or Fry
- For baking: Place the donut pan in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- For frying: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Cool and Add Toppings
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dip in powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, glaze, or chocolate as desired.
- Serve
Enjoy your homemade doughnuts fresh! They’re best served warm and can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
