If you don’t have an oven or just want a quick and easy way to make bread, this stovetop recipe is perfect. The result is a soft, fluffy loaf with a golden-brown crust, made entirely on the stove!
Ingredients
🥣 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
🧂 1 tsp salt
🍬 1 tbsp sugar
🍞 1 tbsp instant yeast
💧 1 cup warm water (around 110°F/45°C)
🫒 1 tbsp olive oil (plus a little extra for greasing)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until the dough comes together.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let it Rise: Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Bread: After the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Preheat the Pan: Place a heavy-bottomed pan (like a Dutch oven or cast-iron skillet) on the stove over medium heat and let it preheat for 5 minutes.
- Cook the Bread: Lightly grease the pan with olive oil and place the dough in it. Cover with the lid and cook on low to medium heat for about 15 minutes.
- Flip and Cook: Flip the bread carefully and cook for another 10-15 minutes, until both sides are golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature!
Enjoy your homemade stovetop bread with butter, jam, or any topping of your choice!
