Ingredients:
(Serves 4–6)

For the Steak Patties:

  • 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • ½ cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ⅓ cup Campbell’s French onion soup (from a 10½ oz can)

For the Gravy:

  • Remaining French onion soup
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup water
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for extra depth)

Directions:

  1. Make the Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, and ⅓ cup of the French onion soup. Mix gently with your hands until just combined—avoid overmixing for tender patties. Form into 4–6 oval-shaped patties.
  2. Sear the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until nicely browned. Remove and set aside (they don’t need to be fully cooked yet).
  3. Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, sprinkle in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually stir in the remaining French onion soup and ½ cup water. Whisk until smooth and slightly thickened, about 2–3 minutes. Add Worcestershire sauce if using.
  4. Simmer Together: Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the gravy is rich and flavorful.
  5. Serve: Spoon gravy over the patties and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
