- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cups mushrooms (white or cremini), sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp thyme leaves (fresh or dried)

- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
For the Sandwich:
- 4 slices of your favorite bread
- 4 slices of cheese (Swiss, provolone, or cheddar)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
