Classic Southern Creamy Pea Salad

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4–6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (or 1 cup chopped ham, optional)
  • 1 (16-oz) package frozen sweet peas, thawed (or canned peas)
  • A sprinkle of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds (or 1/2 cup chopped celery)

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sweet peas, chopped eggs, bacon or ham, green onions, and shredded cheese.
  2. Add black pepper, salt, garlic powder, celery seeds (or chopped celery), and a light sprinkle of cayenne. Stir until evenly mixed.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and sour cream until smooth.
  4. Pour the dressing over the pea mixture and gently stir to coat all ingredients.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend.
  6. Serve chilled and enjoy.
