Ingredients:

  • ½ cup water
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ¼ tsp cream of tartar
  • Pink and blue food coloring gel (or any cotton candy-inspired colors)
  • Cotton candy-flavored extract (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)

Directions:

  1. Scrub and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax, then insert a wooden stick into each apple. Arrange them on a parchment-lined tray.
  2. Combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar in a saucepan. Stir on medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Raise the heat to high and let the mixture boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (150°C). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, and cotton candy-flavored extract if desired.
  4. Divide the candy mixture into two separate bowls. Add pink food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to the other. Swirl each color using a toothpick to create a marbled effect.
  5. Tilt each bowl gently and dip each apple into both colored mixtures, swirling them to form a cotton candy-inspired design. Set them on parchment paper to cool and firm up.
  6. If desired, sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles while the candy is still soft for a charming finish.
  7. Allow the candy apples to cool fully until the coating hardens. Enjoy them right away or wrap them for later!
